BarrelArt – decorative items made from barrels
	For a long time now, I have had this irrepressible desire to acquire wine barrels. What their fate would be, I didn’t then know, but I felt they were something I just had to have. It was always such a good feeling picturing the barrels lined up against the wall, waiting for something to happen to them. What exactly that would be, no one yet knew…

Then one day, an opportunity presented itself. One of my friends let me know they were getting rid of their used barrels and asked if I was interested in purchasing them. The minute he asked, I was already in a rented truck on my way picking them up. Somehow, we fit all the barrels in the garage and I remember just standing there, trying to figure out what to do with them.

First off, I took two of the barrels and rolled them right into our bedroom to use as night stands. Then I chose six barrels, only from my favorite cooperages of course, and piled them up in a pyramid at the far end of the garage, in case I wanted to make some wine. The rest I took apart, one by one, and gradually the ideas and plans began forming in my head and my first barrel items were produced. My trips to Home Depot became more frequent as my need for more tools grew, and in month, my workshop was pretty well stocked. It is where I work on the weekends and in my free time when we’re not out wine tasting. My goal is to make lots of different things using all parts of the wine barrel.

Now, I just happen to be working on lamp and next on the list is a headboard, lounge chair, mailbox, wall clock, and fence. If anyone has any other ideas, I’d love to hear them!
