    Beginning with Bock

We decided to take on the huge and very important task of tasting all the wines at Bock. First we took a look around the winery and observed all the harvesting activities that were going on. Interesting enough, all the harvesting work takes place right at the winery and not at another location, as most wineries tend to do. And it looks like this is how it's going to stay. ...

At the end of the yard, there is a deep trench where people are working away, laying bricks, building the new two-story cellar. This is really a sight to see: the hole is about 15 meters deep, and next to it are the grapes that are waiting to be picked so that, one day, they will be put into the cellar whose walls are now being built. There is also work going on in the processeing part of the winery where tractors are coming and going, bringing the grapes that are then selected and eventually put into a fermentation tank. The cellar is remarkably small considering the size of the winery, but it will become downright monumental once the new cellar is ready.

We tasted 16 wines in total, almost all the wines available on the wine list:
    1. Hárslevelű 2007
    2. Chardonnay 2007
    3. Chardonnay Barrique 2006
    4. Portugieser 2007
    5. Kékfrankos (Blue Frankish) 2007
    6. Kadarka 2007
    7. Kékfrankos (Blue Frankish) Selection 2006
    8. Merlot 2007
    9. Cabernet Sauvignon 2007
    10. Pinot Noir 2006
    11. Cabernet Franc 2006
    12. Royal Cuvée 2004
    13. Bock Cuveé 2003
    14. Syrah 2006
    15. Capella
    16. Magnifico

We began with the whites, and among the four we tasted, the Chardonnay Barrique was the sure winner. The oaky tones serve it well and, thankfully, are not overpowering, allowing the fruitiness to come through along with soft, creamy, pleasant aromas. A great complement to any fish meal, but a great stand alone wine as well.
